 - William Faulkner

“I feel that this award was not made to me as a man, but to my work -- a life's work in the agony and sweat of the human spirit, not for glory and least of all for profit, but to create out of the materials of the human spirit something which did not exist before. So this award is only mine in trust.”

 - Jack Benny
“I don't deserve this award, but I have arthritis and I don't deserve that either.”

(TULSA) The Oklahoma statewide chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Oklahoma) announced the winning entries for the 2007 AIA Oklahoma Awards of Excellence program at the AIA Central States Region conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma over the weekend. The Awards of Excellence program was founded to promote excellence in the built environment in Oklahoma and to contribute to the professional growth of the architect. Almost 60 entries were entered and juried for consideration.

Jurors for the competition were recruited from three of the most distinguished firms in the nation and traveled to Oklahoma to jury and present the awards. They were: Thomas S. Laging, FAIA, University of Nebraska; Donald MacDonald, FAIA, Donald MacDonald Architects, San Francisco; and, David Proffitt, AIA, GBBN Architects, Louisville, Kentucky. In recognizing the jurors, AIA Oklahoma president James Loftis, FAIA, noted, “These gentlemen represent some of the ‘rock stars’ of the profession nationally and we are honored to have them in Oklahoma for this event.”

The jury selected nine projects for recognition in the Awards of Excellence Program. Two entries in the competition received the most prestigious Honor Award. The Honor Award recipients were:
